- Specifications men's hooded cycling jackets
In this article I’m going to cover the best men’s hooded cycling jackets.
A hood is a great way to prevent cold and wetness from getting in your face and eyes.
For such a simple instrument of weather protection, they are still offered in a number of ways. For mountain biking you get helmet-compatible hoods, as well as your standard daily commuting versions.
And there are stow-away, and detachable options as well, to clean up the overall design of the jacket.
They are just one feature of jackets that offer protection against worsening weather conditions in the form of windproof, water-resistance, waterproof, and insulation cycling jackets.
You can find a table overview for your convenience at the end of the article, but whatever you choose, you’ll be able to find a great option on my list of the best men’s hooded cycling jackets.
Troy Lee Designs Descent cycling jacket

The Troy Lee Designs Descent jacket is a great endurance jacket for both male and female cyclists who go out riding no matter what the weather looks like.
Like other premium waterproof cycling jackets, it features a 3-layer breathable 10K waterproof fabric. And the hood is compatible with most helmets out there.
A no-nonsense design offers a pretty tight fit. It ensures the jacket looks great, but if that’s not your thing make sure to size up.
- Waterproof cycling jacket with helmet compatible hood
- None
Gore Wear Endure cycling jacket

The Gore Wear Endure cycling jacket is a fairly lightweight, and packable waterproof jacket.
Made from GORE-TEX PACLITE® Plus it features a durable outer shell, with a GORE-TEX membrane. In combination with water-resistant zippers and taped seams, it makes this cycling jacket waterproof.
The jacket packs into a tiny package, which makes it perfect to stow away in a pannier, bikepack, or backpack.
It’s hooded with enough space to cover an average-sized helmet.
It’s definitely not the cheapest but none of Gore’s products are. But its waterproof packability, makes this lightweight, breathable cycling jacket a serious contender for adventurous cyclists.
- Helmet-compatible, yet still stowable, waterproof jacket. Highly versatile jacket for any type of riding from trail riding, to touring, and bikepacking
- Pricey
Gore Wear Lupra cycling jacket

The Gore Wear Lupra jacket is a high-quality, relaxed-fit option for a winter cycling jacket.
Made from a combination of GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® in the front and GORE® selected fabrics in the back it’s a hooded option compatible with helmets.
The loose fit allows easy layering for increased insulation in an already durable and waterproof setup, with taped seams in the hood and shoulders.
Draw strings let you tighten the hood and hem to further protect you from the elements.
Long sleeves with pre-shaped elbows create the perfect fit when cycling and sit generously over your gloves. 2 zippered hand pockets finish this excellent design.
One of the best allround winter cycling jackets, flexible, versatile, and great-looking on and of the bike.
- Great allround and versatile winter cycling jacket that's helmet compatible
- None
Showers Pass Elite 2.1 cycling jacket

When the going gets tough and you need the protection no matter the cost, the Showers Pass Elite 2.1 jacket is the way to go.
The jacket is made from Elite 3-Layer ripstop fabric with DWR water-resistant fabric. Fully taped seams in combination with this very durable fabric ensures no water goes through.
Waterproof zippers close up the jacket, breast pocket, and rear back pocket, while a long drop tail protects you from road spray while riding.
Large 3M reflective striping on both arms and on your back increase visibility significantly.
The only thing which keeps this jacket from just about perfect is that Showers Pass did not include your standard black color.
- Heavy-duty, allround, visibible waterproof cycling jacket with many pockets
- None
Showers Pass Transit CC cycling jacket

The Showers Pass Transit CC cycling jacket is more than your average pack-and-stow jacket.
With Artex 3-layer fabric and DWR-free PFC treatment you get all the weather protection you need, in a fairly lightweight package, that’s extremely breathable, and has enough pockets to put away your keys and the like.
A reflective droptail with reflective bars on cuffs means you’re seen in low-light conditions and underlines its excellent use for daily commuting and bikepacking.
- Breathable, visible, waterproof, stowable cycling jacket for bikepacking, commuting, and touring
- None
Showers Pass Syncline CC cycling jacket

The Showers Pass Syncline CC jacket is a high-quality yet very affordable option considering the amount of functionality this lightweight jacket provides.
2.4 layered waterproof fabric with taped seams, water-resistant zipper, 3M reflective tape, an adjustable hood compatible with a helmet, zippered ventilation vents on both sides, this jacket does it all and does it very well.
It’s probably the best all-round waterproof cycling jacket for the money.
- Excellent allround, waterproof cycling jacket for commuting and touring
- None
Fox Racing Defend 3-Layer Water cycling jacket

The Fox Racing Defend 3-Layer Water cycling jacket is the brand’s most durable, premium, waterproof cycling jacket.
Made from 3-layer polyester with tough Cordura panels and taped seams, they basically packed everything they could think of in a jacket made to withstand everything you can throw at it.
It has pockets with water-resistant zippers and a helmet-compatible hood, which can be tightened with drawstrings.
To cool down when you need to, two waterproof zippers under the arms allow for some much-needed ventilation.
For those who look for maximum protection any which way you can.
- Durable, waterproof jacket w. helmet-compatible hood
- None
Fox Racing Ranger Tech Fleece cycling jacket

The Fox Racing Ranger Tech Fleece cycling jacket is a long name for this flashy camo jacket.
The tech-part comes in the form of TruDri fabric, which allows for enhanced moisture-wicking characteristics for those of us who sweat more than average.
With 2 zippered hand pockets and 1 zippered breast pocket you have more than enough cargo space.
The jacket is water-resistant, not waterproof, which means it falls in the light weather protection category.
In combination with the camo print, and tech fabric, you get a fashionable cycling jacket for cold weather trail riding.
- Fashionable water-resistant, and breathable jacket
- Not waterproof
Fox Racing Ranger Wind Pullover cycling jacket

The Fox Racing Ranger Wind Pullover cycling jacket is a nice deviation from the norm of lightweight cycling jackets.
With a pullover-design, pash through pockets and a DWR treatment you get a well-protected and insulated piece of equipment that doubles as a stylish hoodie.
It’s hooded and helmet-compatible, making this one of the more stylish MTB-oriented cycling jackets in the market.
- Stylish, helmet compatible jacket with pullover design.
- Pass through pockets are useless to store stuff while riding
Fox Racing Ranger 2.5 Water cycling jacket

The Fox Racing Ranger 2.5 Water jacket is a lightweight option for cold weather and wet conditions.
A great allround cycling jacket with 10K waterproof fabric and a helmet compatible hood. A bit more lightweight than the more expensive options from Fox Racing, the jacket is perfect for all-round riding in less than ideal conditions.
Fox Racing clothing is well-designed and this form-fitting yet comfortable feeling jacket is no exception.
- Lightweight, waterproof cycling jacket, all-season option
- None
Fox Racing Flexair Water cycling jacket

The Fox Racing Flexair Water jacket is a premium, lightweight, race-oriented waterproof cycling jacket for adventurous riding.
10K waterproof ripstop polyester fabric with taped seams, and a helmet compatible hood ensure your protection against the weather at any time.
2 zippered hand pockets let you tow around necessities, and a pull cord keeps the hem close to your body to prevent heat from getting out, and spray from getting in.
It’s one of the most minimalistically designed high-quality waterproof cycling jackets.
- Lightweight, waterproof jacket w. helmet-compatible hood
- None
Inbike Rain Hooded Waterproof cycling jacket

In an industry where premium brands vie for making the most expensive cycling garments you can think of, the Inbike Rain Hooded Waterproof cycling jacket is a breath of fresh air.
For a decent enough price you get a 10K lightweight polyester shell with fully taped seams, which makes this an excellent waterproof addition to your cycling wardrobe.
Its single downside is the hood is not fully compatible with your average helmet, which relegates this jacket to helmetless commuting or bikepacking (my hope is any trail rider wears a helmet).
2 zippered hand pockets and reflective striping finishes this otherwise pretty allround and great design for a waterproof cycling jacket.
- Budget-friendly waterproof, allround cycling jacket
- Not helmet-compatible
Inbike Reflective Windproof Breathable cycling jacket

The Inbike Reflective Windproof Breathable cycling jacket is one of the most affordable all-round water-resistant options you can find.
Apart from the fact they could improve upon their naming convention, there’s very little wrong with this jacket offering a water-resistant knitted polyester shell with fleece lining.
Loads of storage options come in the form of 2 zippered hand pockets and 2 zippered breast pockets.
So as far as windproof and water-resistant jackets go, this sub-100 dollar one is very good indeed.
- One of the most affordable, water-resistant cycling jacket on the market
- Not waterproof
POC Guardian Air cycling jacket

The POC Guardian Air cycling jacket is a robust, lightweight trail jacket.
The Corduro-reinforced fabric makes this high-quality polyamide offering even more durable. And quality is a trademark from this Swedish cycling brand.
You get what you pay for, which is more than double the price of budget varieties.
It’s as simple as it is effective, with a lightweight, breathable, water-resistant shell with a single zippered breast pocket.
But the quality of this garment simply can’t be beat, so if you’ve got money to spend, you simply can’t go wrong with this jacket.
- Lightweight, durable, breathable, water-resistant trail jacket
- Pricey yet not waterproof
POC Signal All-weather cycling jacket

The POC Signal All-Weather jacket has the honor of being the most expensive packable jacket on this list.
So what do you get for paying several hundred dollars for a minimal packable jacket? For one, the most waterproof jacket with protection against a 20K water column, which is double the protection when compared to the average other waterproof jacket. You can hang the packed jacket on your handlebars.
The jacket actually features a RECCO® Reflector and a twICEme® NFC Medical ID, something I normally see on jackets worn with skis or a snowboard. It’s an added protection for bikepackers.
The fact that such a jacket comes in a form, which can be easily stowed away indeed makes it the ultimate lightweight jackets for bikepackers.
- The most expensive minimal, waterproof cycling jacket you can pack and hang on your handlebars. Recco reflector and twICEme NFC medical ID
- Price, not well insulated
POC Motion Wind cycling jacket

The POC Motion Wind cycling jacket is a flexible cold-weather, windproof cycling jacket.
Made from nylon spandex fabric it’s very durable and has an excellent fairly loose fit.
It sits between jackets meant for MTB and road cycling, but could be used for both as well as for commuting and bikepacking.
With a long drop tail, reflective elements front and back, and a helmet-compatible hood it’s the perfect allround option that doesn’t hurt your wallet much.
- Allround cold-weather, windproof cycling jacket with large droptail and helmet-compatible hood
- Not waterproof
Pearl Izumi Rove Barrier cycling jacket

The Pearl Izumi Rove Barrier cycling jacket is a great, affordable, allround option from the Italian brand.
Made from recycled stretch woven polyester with their proprietary PI Dry technology, it’s an excellent water-repellant option.
The hood is removable and the jacket offers 2 zippered hand pockets as stowing capacity.
A large reflective droptail ensures increased visibility from the back.
- Allround Cycling jacket with removable hood and solid water-repellant characteristics
- Not waterproof
Leatt MTB AllMtn 5.0 V22 cycling jacket

The Leatt MTB AllMtn 5.0 V22 cycling jacket is the most no-nonsense cycling jacket I’ve come across.
With a 30K 3-layer Hydradri fabric and taped seams it’s a jacket with a singular purpose of keeping you dry in the most extreme trail riding conditions you can think of. There is no other jacket with a more capable fabric to withstand the rigors of mountain biking.
All that protection does mean you run the risk of overheating, and to prevent such a thing from happening two huge zippers gain access to adjustable ventilation. That’s a good thing, but it comes at the cost of normal zippered pockets found in other jackets.
Their ride-adaptive hood system is helmet-compatible and offers multiple intuitive options to protect your face.
So as far as cycling jackets go, this one is the most hardcore, but a bit less flexible than other options.
- Your trail could end up in the ocean and you'd still come out dry
- Meant for riders who want to ride their trails no matter the conditions
Leatt MTB AllMtn 4.0 V22 cycling jacket

The Leatt MTB AllMtn 4.0 V22 cycling jacket is the more affordable option in Leatt’s lineup.
This is because it ditches the use of the 30K fabric in favor of 10K softshell. It means it’s lighter and cooler, but offers relatively less protection against rain, dirt and mud.
And I have to say relative, because this is still an immensely impressive jacket that features the innovative hood system, and offers more allround flexibility than the hardcore 5.0 jacket.
So if you like your trail riding a bit more laid-back, then definitely go for this more affordable, allround option.
- Best MTB jacket for trail riding in chilly temperatures
- None
Leatt MTB AllMtn 2.0 V22 cycling jacket

The Leatt MTB AllMtn 2.0 V22 jacket is an affordable entry into a packable jacket with a decent amount of water resistance.
The 5K water-resistant fabric will keep you dry through light and short showers, and has a hood you can pull over your helmet. The hood actually stays in place using a magnet.
2 zippered pockets let you take necessary items with you, like your phone and keys.
Offered in a single black version, it’s a clean-looking water-resistant and windproof jacket, which can fold into its own chest pocket.
- High-quality, yet affordable, entry-level MTB jacket
- Not waterproof
